Course Description:
This course is a sociological study of social behavior and social structures, emphasizing the importance of a knowledge and appreciation of the multi-cultural and multiethnic dimensions of society. Topics include cultural elements such as values, norms, beliefs, language, and roles, as well as group processes, social conflict and social change. The video series, "The Sociological Imagination" introduces the student to sociology through interviews with leading social scientists. (26 video programs) This course is designed as a comprehensive learning system consisting of three key elements: study guide, textbook, and video programs. This course consists of 4 tests (50 multiple choice, 2 essay questions for a total of 125 points each) to be taken at the testing center, M105, and 2 writing assignments (worth 50 points each).
